Zingiber sp.

Description: This species was also lacking flowers, so it could not be identified below genus level, but the presence of a pulvinus allowed it to be placed in Zingiber. (The flower and bract characteristics described for other Zingiber species can also be applied here, based on this classification. See entry for Species 17.) This species is distinguished from the other non-flowering Zingiber described here by its short, cleft ligule and short petiole.

Distribution: Deramakot

Ecology/Habitat: Found in a somewhat denser understory with darker canopy than the other Zingiber, but also within the formerly logged plots at Deramakot.
